If you are planning on putting a pool in your yard this spring, take some time this winter to really think about how you want your new pool to look. Your pool can be the defining feature of your backyard if you design your pool correctly.

Add a Water Feature

One of the first things that you should think about adding to your pool is a water feature. Having a pool is great, but having moving water around your pool is amazing. Having moving water can really enhance the feeling of your pool.

There are lots of ways to add moving water and water features to your pool. You could add a classic waterfall feature that pours water into your pool for a timeless look. If you want something more modern, you can add a wall next to your pool, where the water is constantly running down the wall and into your pool. For a little fun, you can add sprayers to the side of your pool so you have water raining down on you while you are in the pool. Or you could add a shallow area around your pool that is only a couple of inches deep that allows you to cool off your feet.

Think About the Patio Design

Next, think about the overall design of your patio. When you install a pool, you are generally also installing a patio around your pool as well. Your patio will define how you hang out around your pool. You want your patio area to be big enough for hanging out. You want to have space to add chairs and tables around your pool. You want your patio to be big enough for people to hang out around your pool. If you enjoy being outdoors, you may want your patio to be big enough for an outdoor kitchen.

Also, make sure you have enough space to walk around the pool and safely hang out on the patio.

Add A Fire Pit

Fire pits are trendy, and they are also a really nice poolside feature. Fire pits are a great way to extend the use of your pool area into the evening time. Your fire pit should be ten or more feet away from your pool for safety reasons; however, it can easily be incorporated into part of your overall patio design.

Picking out the type of pool that you want is just the beginning. You also need to determine if you want to add a water feature and fire pit to your pool and patio design.
